Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cougars Top Eutectics 90-40

Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the fourth ranked Columbia College women's basketball team hit the court as they hosted the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics in an AMC matchup. Columbia topped the Eutectics 90-40.  The Cougars improve to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

It was a bit of a sloppy start to the afternoon, as the Cougars were trying to fall into place. The score was just 1-0 Columbia after about three minutes of play. Jordan Alford would connect with Geena Stephens who finished back to back plays at the rim to give the Cougars some energy and take the 8-3 lead as the Eutectics called a quick timeout. As the first quarter progressed, Columbia's run continued as they led 20-5 and were working well as a team on the offensive end. After the first, the Cougars held a 24-7 lead. Midway through the second, Columbia called its first timeout of the game while leading 30-12. At halftime the Cougars were up 40-16 as they shot 37 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line.

In the third, the Eutectics went on an 8-0 run making a small dent in the Columbia 45-24 lead. Alexis Uffmann would feed Ukari McKinney down low to break the Cougars offensive silence. Uffmann continued to do what she does best in setting her teammates up for success as Columbia went on a 11-3 run taking a 56-27 lead, causing a Eutectic timeout with two minutes remaining in the third. Following the timeout the Cougar run was not phased as they headed into the fourth with a score of 66-29. In the final quarter, Columbia continued to stretch the score, while the Eutectics kept fighting. Columbia closed out the game by a final score of 90-40. The Cougars finished with 23 assists on the afternoon.

Another nice team performance from Columbia as there were three in double digits including Ukari McKinney who tied her career high 14 points, which she just established in the previous game, Jordan Alford (12), and Morgan Brandt (10). The Cougars were all over the boards as Alexis Uffmann, Brandt, Alford, and Raegan Wieser all had eight rebounds apiece. In addition to Uffmann's eight boards, she also dished out a game high eight dimes. Following their game this past Thursday, Wieser has tied 11th place all time on the all-time blocks list with 58.

The women's basketball team will be back in action next week when they travel to Jackson, Tennessee to compete in the Jackson Rotary Invitational. They are set to play third ranked Campbellsville University (Ky.) on Friday, November 23rd at 4 p.m. and will play again Saturday, November 24th against 12th ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University (Kan.) at 12 p.m.
