Conway, Ark. – The fourth ranked Columbia College volleyball team was back in action tonight when they traveled to Conway, Arkansas, to take on the Central Baptist (Ark.) College Mustangs in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to defeat the Mustangs in three straight sets (25-5, 25-8, 25-11) to improve to 33-3 on the season and 9-2 in the AMC.

Columbia College came out in the first set and jumped out to an early 8-1 lead. They continued to play well as the set progressed and never let the Mustangs get into the game as they cruised to a 25-5 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Central Baptist was able to score the first point in the second set but 13 straight points from the Cougars gave them a 13-1 lead midway through the game. The Mustangs did their best to get back into the contest but the Cougars were able to take the second set by a final score of 25-8 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Columbia College carried over their momentum from the second set into the third set and were able to go on a 14-2 run to start the game. The Mustangs scored the next two points to cut the lead to 14-4 but that was as close as they would get as the Cougars attack was too much to handle down the stretch as they took the third set by a final score of 25-11 to solidify the three game sweep.

Selina Merfol led the way for Columbia as she finished with a match high 16 assists. To go along with Merfol, Ariadne Borges had a match high six kills, while Allison Garcia and Thais Andrade each added six digs to round out the top performers for the Cougars.

The volleyball team is back in action tomorrow, November 3rd when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in their final regular season game. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
