Box Score Batesville, Ark. – The fourth ranked Columbia College volleyball team took the court this afternoon in Batesville, Arkansas, as they faced the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in an AMC matchup. The Cougars ended the regular season with a clean sweep over the Scots (25-14, 25-10, 25-13) to improve to 34-3 on the season and finish AMC play 10-2.
The Cougars, bringing their energy over from last night's game, quickly jumped out to an 11-4 lead over the Scots to start the afternoon. Columbia continued to roll as they led 20-12 late in set one. The Cougars went on to pick up set one by a score of 25-14, taking the 1-0 lead in the match. In the second set Lyon stayed close in the beginning, only down by two, but Columbia used a 6-1 run to spread themselves from the Scots 12-5. Another big run from the Cougars extended their lead 20-8. There was no coming back from that deficit for the Scots, as Columbia took the 2-0 lead with a 25-10 win in set two.
Lyon would continue to fight, as the game was tied 4-4 early, but they just could not keep up with the Cougars who sailed to a 25-13 victory to notch their 28th sweep of the season as they concluded regular-season play.
Caroline Clifford (12) and Kiersten Anderson (10) each tallied double digit kills, while Thais Andrade led the team with nine digs. Along with that, Manuela Vargas recorded 29 assists on the afternoon.
The volleyball team finished third in the AMC Conference as they head into postseason play. The Cougars will begin play in the AMC Tournament on Tuesday, November 6th when they compete in the AMC Tournament Quarterfinals. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. in Southwell Complex.
