Columbia, Mo. – This evening the Columbia College baseball team was back in action when they played host to the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats in their final home game of the season. The Cougars defeated the Wildcats by a final score of 14-2 to improve to 29-11 on the season.
The Cougars were able to strike first as they took the 1-0 lead after the first. They were able to grab another run in the second to hold a 2-0 lead heading into the third, however the Wildcats were quick to tie the game up in the top of the third. Columbia was able to regain the lead off of an Andrew Warner two run homerun, putting them up 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth. The Cougars were able to rally five more runs in the inning to lead 9-2. The Wildcats tried to work their way back into the game, but were unable to overcome the Cougars who scored another five runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure a 14-2 victory in their final home game of the season.
Multiple pitchers saw the mound today including Chris Wall who allowed two hits and struck out one, Jeremy Rettig who allowed four hits and two earned runs, J.W. McGraw who allowed one hit and struck out one batter, Derek Sallee was the winning pitcher as he allowed just one hit, and Craig Smith wrapped things up for the Cougars as he gave up one hit, while striking out one batter. Offensively, Jordan Wright went 2-3 with one run scored and two RBI's, Blade McKee was 2-5 with one run scored and two RBI's, Andrew Warner went 3-5 with one run scored and three RBI's, Alex Del Rio was 3-4, Ethan Howser went 2-3 with two runs scored, Justin Randle went 1-4 with one run scored and one RBI, Tanner Allen went 4-4 with three runs scored and three RBI's, and Hunter Trowbridge went 1-1 with one run scored and two RBI's.
The baseball team is back in action on Friday, April 20th when they travel to Belleville, Illinois to take on the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx in an AMC doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 3:00 p.m. with the second game to follow.
