Batesville, Ark. –The eighth ranked Columbia College softball team was back in action when they continued play in Batesville, Arkansas, taking on the Lyon College Scots in the AMC doubleheader Game of the Week. The Cougars won the first game by a score of 8-3 and dropped the second game by a final score of 5-3 to move to 16-9 on the season and 9-1 in conference play.
In the first game, the Cougars struck first as they led 2-0 after two innings. They tallied five more runs in the fourth to hold a 7-0 lead heading into the fifth. Lyon was able to pick up three runs in the fifth, but that would be as close as they would get as the Cougars secured an 8-3 victory in game one against the Scots.
Lexi Dickerson was the winning pitcher as she allowed five hits, three earned runs, and struck out four batters in 5.1 innings of work. Kaitlyn Nottelmann came in to relieve Dickerson as she allowed just one hit and struck out three batters in her 1.2 innings on the mound. Offensively, Olivia Denslow went 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI's, Libby Marko was 1-2 with two runs scored, and Julianna Waldner went 2-3 with one run scored and two RBI's.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Cougars once again struck first as they held a 3-0 lead after three innings. However, the Scots chipped their way back into the game scoring one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in each the sixth and seventh. Columbia was held scoreless the last four innings as they fell 5-3 to the Scots in game two.
Kaitlyn Nottelmann was in the circle as she allowed seven hits, five runs including four earned runs, while striking out seven batters in seven innings of work. Offensively, Rachel Sullivan went 2-4 with one run scored, Alexandra Linck was 1-3 with one run scored and three RBI's, and Julianna Waldner went 1-3 with one run scored.
The Cougars are back in action Tuesday, April 10th when they travel to Belleville, Illinois to take on the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx in an AMC doubleheader. The first game of the doubleheader is set to start at 3:00 p.m. with the second game to follow.
