Box Score

Atchison, Kan. – The 16th ranked Columbia College men's soccer team was back in action tonight when they traveled to Atchison, Kansas, to take on the Benedictine (Kan.) College Ravens in a nonconference matchup. The Cougars, who came into this game following an overtime win against Williams Baptist (Ark.) on Friday, went to overtime for the second straight contest with this game ending in a 1-1 draw. With the tie, Columbia College improved to 3-2-1 on the season.

In the first half of the match, the Ravens came out and controlled the possession early. The Cougars forced the Ravens keeper to make an early save in the game but had a tough time getting anything going for the remainder of the half. Benedictine had the best opportunities to score in the period hitting the post in the 26th minute and the crossbar in the 45th minute but ultimately the score remained 0-0 at the halftime break.

The Ravens came out of the locker room and were able to take advantage of a corner kick opportunity just three minutes into the half to take a 1-0 lead in the game. The Cougars battled back over the next few minutes of the period and were able to tie the game at one seven minutes later thanks to a goal from Joe Spotanski. Mako Makoanyane picked up his third assist of the season as he played a ball across the box to Spotanski who was able to slot it past the Ravens keeper and into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Both sides exchanged scoring chances in the final 30 minutes of the game but neither side was able to find the back of the net as the game remained tied at one at the end of regulation.

Neither side was able to capitalize on their scoring opportunities in overtime despite each team putting two shots on target and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Ryan Harrisskitt (2-1-1) was in goal tonight for Columbia College as the junior recorded four saves in the contest.
