Box Score Columbia, Mo. – The third ranked Columbia College volleyball team was back in action today when they traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to face the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics in an AMC matchup. The Cougars recorded their ninth straight sweep defeating the Eutectics (25-12, 25-9, 25-12). The last time Columbia had nine straight sweeps was in 2011. The Cougars now improve to 14-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
To begin set one the teams were staying right with each other as it was tied 7-7. The Cougars were settling in as they began to separate themselves from the Eutectics. Columbia went on an 11-2 run making the score 18-9. The first set was wrapped up with a 25-12 Cougar win. Prior to the match, Caroline Clifford was just three kills away from her 1,000th career kill. She hit the 1,000 milestone on the nose during the first set.
The second set began much like the first with the score tied at 6 early. Using another big run, Columbia pulled away leading 19-8. STLCOP called a timeout late in search of some energy, but there was no coming back as the Cougars won set two 25-9. Going for their ninth straight sweep, Columbia took a 9-3 lead in the third. The Eutectics continued to fight, but the Cougars flew to a 25-12 victory to end the match.
Columbia was led by Caroline Clifford who recorded 11 kills as she surpassed 1,000 kills for her career. In addition, Thais Andrade tallied 11 digs, while Manuela Vargas had 37 assists in the match.
The volleyball team is back in action Saturday, September 22nd when they travel to Point Lookout, Missouri to compete in the 2018 Chick Fil A Tournament hosted by College of the Ozarks. The Cougars will play against the University of Saint Mary at 1 p.m. and then against Tabor College at 3 p.m.
