Cougars Defeat Scots 4-0 in Batesville

Batesville, Ark. – The 18th ranked Columbia College men's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to defeat the Scots by a final score of 4-0 to improve to 4-2-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.

The Cougars came out in the first half and were able to create several scoring chances early as they had three corner kicks in the first five minutes of the game. They were able to get on the board first with just under 30 minutes to play in the half when Caden Castello was able to find the back of the net for the first time this season to give Columbia a 1-0 lead. The Scots picked it up as the half progressed and were able to create several chances of their own but could not finish any off as the score remained 1-0 heading into the halftime break. Lyon outshot Columbia 4-3 in the half.

It did not take long for the Cougars to add to their lead in the second half as Lesia Thetsane gave Columbia a 2-0 advantage after finishing off his first goal of the season just two minutes into the period. The Cougars were back at it again just two minutes later when Thetsane was able to find Cameron Durst for his first goal of the season to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead. Columbia College added one more goal in the game with 22 minutes left to play when Ximo Gil headed in his second goal of the season on a ball from Joey Koetting to give the Cougars a 4-0 lead. The Scots tried to get back into the game but the damage was done as Columbia closed them out down the stretch to solidify their fourth win of the season.

Ryan Harrisskitt (3-1-1) was in goal this afternoon for the Cougars, making four saves in his third shutout of the season.

The men's soccer team is back in action on Tuesday, September 25th when they travel to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to take on the third ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 4 p.m.
