Hastings, Neb. – The third ranked Columbia College volleyball team was back in action today when they resumed play in the 2018 Five Points Bank Invitational hosted by Hastings (Neb.) College. In set three, the Falcons hung around in the beginning, but the Cougars went on a run to lead 13-5. Much like set two, all momentum was on Columbia's side and the Falcons struggled to get back in the game. The Cougars won set three 25-15 as they swept Friends University in their first match of the day.

Columbia was led by Caroline Clifford who recorded 13 kills, while Manuela Vargas had 32 assists to wrap up game one of the day.

In Columbia's second match of the day they took on the Peru State College Bobcats. The game was tied up at five early. As the set continued the Cougars were able to separate as they led 15-9 over the Bobcats. Using their momentum from earlier in the day, Columbia continued to run as the score was 22-10. The Cougars put the Bobcats away in set one 25-13 to take the early lead in the match.

The Columbia control continued while they went on a 6-0 run to start the second set. The Bobcats could not slow the Cougars down as they trailed 15-5. Columbia was in the zone as they cruised to a 25-14 victory, holding the 2-0 advantage.

In set three, the Cougars found themselves in a tight race to begin. It was tied at five and then the Cougars were trailing as the Bobcats were not going down without a fight. Columbia would trail over the next few plays until the game was tied up at 14. The Bobcats quickly grabbed some space making it 19-16. The Cougars however, dug in and tied it again at 21. Each team would go point for point down the stretch. After being tied at 25, Columbia was able to secure the final two points to win 27-25 and pick up their second sweep of the day.

The Cougars were led by Caroline Clifford and Pamela Jamie who each tallied 11 kills, while Manuela Vargas had 26 assists to end the weekend.
