Columbia Cruises to 10th Conference Win 90-32

Columbia, Mo. – The second ranked Columbia College women's basketball team traveled down the street tonight to face the Stephens College Stars in an AMC contest. Columbia cruised to victory 90-32 over the Stars. The Cougars now improve to 16-2 on the season and 10-2 in conference play.  

Stephens started the game with a quick three, but the Cougars went on a 13-1 run over the first four minutes as Stephens called the first timeout. With two minutes left in the first, the Stars hit a three to finally break the Cougars run. Columbia was controlling the pace as they led 27-9 after one.

In the second, the Cougars were doing a great job of running the floor and finding the open player on offense. Over midway through the second quarter Columbia led 42-13, and the Stars took another timeout. After a dominating first half, the Cougars went into halftime up 48-17. Columbia shot 53 percent from the field and 53 from beyond the arc, while having 13 assists in the first half. They also had six steals on nine Star turnovers.   

In the second half the Cougars continued to light it up as they dictated on both ends of the court. After three quarters Columbia held a 70-24 lead. The Stars kept working hard, but there was no way to come back from the deficit as the Cougars cruised to conference win number 10 with a final score of 90-32. Columbia finished shooting 53 percent from the field, 47 from three, had 41 rebounds, 23 assists, and 20 steals on 27 Stars turnovers.

Every Cougar cracked the scoring column tonight as three of them were in double digits including Bria Jones who had a career high 15 points, going 3-5 from three, Grey Hayes had a season high 11 points, going 3-5 from three and dishing out a season high five assists which also tied her career high, and Sarah Walters tied her season high with 10 points. Raegan Wieser was 3-4 from three with nine points, Ashlee Marlatt had eight points and five assists, Mai Nienhueser grabbed seven points, while Hannah Sutton, Jordan Alford, and Morgan Brandt each had six points. Alford also grabbed five rebounds and Brandt had six. Ukari McKinney and Geena Stephens each contributed four points and three rebounds. To round out the night Skyler Beeson had three points and four rebounds and Alexis Uffmann also had three points and gave out two assists to tie 11th place all-time career assists with 207.

The women's basketball team travels to St. Louis, Missouri to take on the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics in an AMC matchup on Saturday, January 19th. The game will tip-off at 1:00 p.m.
