Columbia Downs Trojans 84-39

Hannibal, Mo. – Tonight the second ranked Columbia College women's basketball team traveled to Hannibal, Missouri to take on the Hannibal-LaGrange University Trojans in an AMC contest. Columbia downed the Trojans by a score of 84-39. The Cougars now improve to 18-2 on the season and 12-2 in conference play.  

The Trojans took a quick 3-0 lead right away, but the Cougars went on a 9-0 run causing a Trojan timeout midway through the first quarter. As the first continued, Columbia stretched their lead to 19-7 with a minute and a half to go. The Trojans were able to get a few more buckets, but the Cougars led 21-12 after one. In the second, Columbia kept control of the floor as they led by 20 points with four minutes to play before the half. At the break the Cougars held a comfortable lead 41-18. Columbia had five steals on 12 Trojan turnovers in the first half.

In the first three and a half minutes of the third quarter, the Cougars used a 9-1 run to make the lead 50-19. The Trojans went on a little bit of a run, but Columbia still had control with a 55-27 lead with under three minutes left in the third. Going into the final quarter the score was 67-32, Columbia. In the fourth, the Trojans continued to try their best, but the Cougars were too much for them as Columbia went on to win 84-39. Columbia finished shooting 49 percent from the field, 38 from three, and 83 from the line. The Cougars snagged eight steals on 24 Trojan turnovers, as well as scoring 34 points off of turnovers.

Ashlee Marlatt recorded 12 points, going 2-4 from three, while Grey Hayes dropped 10 and had four rebounds. Morgan Brandt and Jordan Alford each had nine points, while Brandt also brought down eight rebounds and gave out three assists. Alford also had two steals which ties her for 15th place all-time in career steals with 115.

The women's basketball team returns to Southwell Complex on Thursday, January 24th when they take on the William Woods University Owls in an AMC matchup. The game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
