Cougars Oust Hornets

St. Louis, Mo. – The ninth ranked Columbia College volleyball team was on the road tonight in St. Louis, Missouri where they faced the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets in an AMC matchup. The Cougars ousted the Hornets in a 3-0 set (25-11, 25-15, 25-9). Columbia improves to 19-2 on the season and 7-0 in conference play.

The Cougars jumped out of the gates taking a 10-2 lead to start off set one. Columbia continued to bury the Hornets as they led 20-7 late in the set. They wrapped up set one with a 25-11 win, taking the 1-0 lead.

In set two the Cougars went up 8-2, but the Hornets battled back making it 10-7. Despite the Hornets small push, Columbia quickly regained their space 16-9. The Cougars continued to press forward taking the 2-0 advantage with a set two victory 25-15.

There was no looking back for the Cougars as they took a 7-3 lead in the third set, looking to wrap up the match in three. With their foot on the gas they led 20-8, just moments away from securing the sweep. Set three concluded with a 25-9 Cougar win.

Jaqueline Silva tallied nine kills, while Bailee Ulery had seven, and Adianez Rivera and Kiersten Anderson each had six. In addition, Ellie Rockers recorded six digs, and Silva chipped in five. Luisa Ferreira accumulated 31 assists on the night.  

The Cougars will be back in action this weekend as they host the Columbia College Fall Classic. They are set to play Wiley College at 3 p.m. and 13th ranked Lindsey Wilson College at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 18th in Southwell Complex.
