Sioux City, Iowa – The ninth ranked Columbia College volleyball team remains in Sioux City, Iowa this week to compete in the 2019 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championships where they played against Xavier University of Louisiana in day two of pool play. The Cougars defeated the Gold Nuggets 3-1 (25-21, 25-13, 18-25, 25-18) to move to 28-6 on the season and are now 1-1 in pool play.
The Cougars came to the court ready to play after yesterday's loss, dominating the match with a 0.301 hitting percentage including 21 kills in 34 attempts in the fourth set. Columbia racked up a total of 66 kills, 63 assists, and 71 digs in the contest while limiting their opponents to just 42 kills, 39 assists and 60 digs.
Three Cougars had double digit kills, including
Kiersten Anderson with 18,
Jaqueline Silva with 17, and
Sidney Branson with 15. Anderson also led the way in digs with 23 while
Luisa Ferreira had 56 assists.
The Cougars will continue play in the 2019 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championships tomorrow when they play against University of Jamestown at 4 p.m. in the final day of pool play.
