Cougars Play Tonight For a Chance to Advance

Sioux City, Iowa – The ninth ranked Columbia College volleyball team remains in Sioux City, Iowa this week to compete in the 2019 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championships where they played against University of Jamestown in day three of pool play. The Cougars showed up today, defeating the Jimmies, 3-0 (29-27, 25-22, 25-15) to move to 29-6 on the season and are now 2-1 in pool play.

There was a three-way tie in Pool H between Columbia, Westmont, and Jamestown with Westmont already advancing as the top seed. The Cougars will play one set against Jamestown later tonight once a court is available to determine who will move on to bracket play in the National Championships.
 
The Cougars trailed most of the first set, but clawed their way back late in the set to tie the game at 21. Down 26-27, the Cougars benefited from three straight errors by the Jimmies to take set one. Columbia cruised in the second and third sets as they did not trail a single time, sweeping the Jimmies. Columbia had a total of 48 kills for a 0.222 hitting percentage while picking up 59 digs and 44 assists in the match.

Sidney Branson was electric as she led the way with 17 kills while Kiersten Anderson pounded 16 kills as well as logging 17 digs. Additionally, Ellie Rockers and Jaqueline Silva had 14 and 13 digs, respectively, while Luisa Ferreira dished out 39 assists.
 
The Cougars and Jamestown will play their one set to 25 following the 8 p.m. matches. Tune into the NAIA Network to watch the set live.
