Box Score Columbia, Mo. – This evening the Columbia College men's basketball team traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to take on the third ranked Missouri Baptist University Spartans in their final AMC matchup. The Cougars fell 66-46 in the contest. Columbia is now 15-14 on the season and 10-12 in conference play.
The game was kept close in the first few minutes, but the Spartans were warming up as they took a 10-3 lead and the Cougars wanted the first timeout of the night. Columbia was in search of a way to slow down the Spartans offense, but was struggling. The Cougars trailed by 10 points with about 11 minutes to play before the half. As the half continued, Columbia was stuck around that double digit deficit mark for a while. The half was nearing an end and the Spartans were pulling away leading 40-18 with less than two minutes in the first. At the break the Spartans held a commanding lead 42-18.
In the second half, Columbia kept fighting, but they could not rattled the Spartans. The Spartans led by 20 points with under 10 minutes remaining. The Cougars slowed the Spartans scoring down in the second half compared to the first, but were unable to catch up as they dropped by a score of 66-46.
Justin Shaw led with 20 points and six rebounds. He was 12-13 from the free throw line. Adam Mennemeyer added eight points, going 2-3 from three, and seven rebounds. Thibault Benabid added eight boards on the night.
The men's basketball team has concluded AMC regular season play and now awaits their seeding in the AMC Conference Tournament. The Cougars will host Lincoln College this Saturday, February 23rd in a nonconference matchup that will also serve as Senior Day. The game will tip-off at 2 p.m.
