Box Score Conway, Arkansas - This afternoon the Columbia College men's baseball team was back in action as they traveled to Conway, Arkansas to play against Central Baptist College. The Cougars were unable to pick up the win against the Mustangs who won the game 15-10. The Cougars are now 4-5 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
The Cougars were able to get on the board first as Chase Urhahn hit a homerun to start them off. The Mustangs were quick to respond as they were able to find their rhythm early in the game to score eight runs to take the lead 8-1 in the first inning. Both Justin Randle and Nolan Rattai hit a homerun in the second, but Central Baptist was able to score a two-run homerun to keep their lead. The Cougars were able to get themselves back in the game after they scored five runs in the fourth to make it a 10-8 game in the Mustangs favor. Columbia College was able to add another run in the seventh inning, but Central Baptist was able to tally up five runs to extend their lead 15-9. The Cougars fought hard in the final inning, but were stopped after scoring one run to drop the first game of the series 15-10.
Chris Wall (0-1) got the start on the mound as he struck out two batters in 0.2 innings of play. Josiah Imhoff (1-0), Jordan Copeland (1-0), Derek Sallee (0-1), and Lane Threlkeld relieved Wall to allow a combined 10 hits, four earned runs, and three batters struck out in the final eight innings. Offensively, the Cougars were led by Blade McKee who had four hits while scoring a run and had 2 RBI and Chase Urhahn who went 3-4 while scoring two runs and had two RBI.
The baseball team is back in action tomorrow, February 25th as they play a doubleheader against Central Baptist College starting at noon and the second game to follow to wrap up the series. Also, the Cougars game on February 26th against Missouri Valley has been rescheduled for a doubleheader at Missouri Valley on March 19th starting at 2 p.m.
