Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the Columbia College men's lacrosse team traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana to take on the third ranked Indiana Tech Warriors in a nonconference matchup. The Cougars battled, but came up just short as they fell 9-8. Columbia is 1-1 on the season.
The Cougars came out ready to go as they took the 3-1 lead after the first quarter. In the second, the Warriors had settled in and scored three goals, while holding the Cougars scoreless in the quarter. At the half the Warriors were leading 4-3.
In the third, each team was sticking with each other as the Cougars were able to net two goals. However, the Warriors snagged three goals to hold a two goal advantage, 7-5, going into the final 15 minutes. In the fourth quarter the battle continued with Columbia outscoring the Warriors 3-2 in the quarter, but that would not be enough as the Warriors outlasted the Cougars 9-8 in the game.
JT Huez and Cooper Heck each recorded hat tricks in the match, while Sam Crum and Tyler Parrott each added a goal. Crum and Huez each had two assists, with Trevor Doren and Parrott adding one apiece to round out the game.
Ty Hosler was in goal for the Cougars as he recorded 16 saves this afternoon.
The lacrosse team is back in action when they host Missouri Baptist University on Tuesday, March 19th. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
