Box Score 2 Parkville, Mo – The Columbia College softball team traveled to Parkville, Missouri to face the Park University Pirates in an AMC doubleheader. In a slow game one the Cougars were able to generate enough to win 3-0, and then came to life in game two winning 12-3. Columbia is now 11-7 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
Game one production was slow for each team throughout most of the game. Through four innings the game was still scoreless. In the top of the fifth the Cougars were finally able to erase the goose egg on the board as they got the first one of the game. The sixth inning would again be scoreless, but Columbia was able to add two runs in the top of the seventh and hold the Pirates at zero in the bottom of the inning to take game one 3-0.
Lexi Dickerson was on the mound as she allowed five hits and struck out four batters in the shutout. Offensively, Molly Carter was 1-3, Natalie Dummitt was 1-3 with one run scored, Jacey Meyer had a run scored, Allison Keen was 1-2, Britney Edwards had a run scored, Avgustina Arbova was 1-1 with one RBI, and Karolina Arbova added an RBI.
Columbia came alive in game two as they had 12 runs off of 13 hits. After two innings, Cougars were on top 2-1. In the fourth Columbia began to stretch their lead adding three runs, while the Pirates grabbed one. The Cougars pulled away in the fifth knocking in five runs, including a two-run homer hit by Molly Carter to lead 10-3 with two innings to play. Columbia crossed the plate two more times in the top of the seventh, and the Pirates could not dig themselves out of the hole as the Cougars won game two 12-3.
Molly Carter ran the mound as she allowed 10 hits, two earned runs, and struck out seven batters. Offensively, Olivia Denslow went 1-2 with three runs scored and one RBI, Molly Carter was 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Mackenzie Kasarda went 2-5 with one run scored, Natalie Dummitt was 2-5 with one RBI, Jacey Meyer was 2-4 with three runs scored and one RBI, and Karolina Arbova went 3-4 with one run scored.
The Cougars are back in action on Friday, March 22nd when they host the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets in an AMC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
