Columbia, Mo. – This evening, the Columbia College men's baseball team was back in action as they played against the Williams Baptist University Eagles in an AMC matchup. The Cougars took the first game of the series as they beat the Eagles 2-0. The Cougars are now 21-18 on the season and 16-8 in conference play.
 
Despite heavy winds tonight, the Cougars defense was on point as they kept the Eagles from scoring. Columbia went straight to work as they scored a run in the first inning. A double play from 
Chris Wall, to 
Bradley Prebay, to 
Ethan Howser kept the Eagles from scoring in the second. In the fourth inning, Williams Baptist had the bases loaded with two outs left, but the Cougar defense stayed strong as 
Dalton Bealmer caught a fly ball to keep them scoreless. A solo homerun by 
Kenny Piper extended the Cougars lead in the sixth. Columbia was able to get the last three outs of the game to win 2-0.
Chris Wall (5-4) was the sole pitcher as he completed the shutout. Wall did not allow any runs as he struck out 11 batters in nine innings of play. Offensively, the Cougars were led by 
Kenny Piper who had three hits while scoring a run and had two RBI, and 
Chase Urhahn who had a hit and a run scored.
 
The baseball team is back in action tomorrow in an AMC doubleheader against the Williams Baptist University Eagles to finish up the series. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. with senior festivities occurring in between the games.
