Cougars Take Both Games Against the Scots

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Batesville, Ark. – This afternoon, the Columbia College men's baseball team was back in action as they played against the Lyon College Scots in an AMC doubleheader matchup. The Cougars won the first game 8-2 and game two 13-5. The Cougars are now 25-18 on the season and 20-8 in conference play.
 
In the first game, the Cougars were first to get on the board as they scored two runs in the second inning and added two more in the fifth. Columbia extended their lead with a run scored in the sixth, but Lyon responded with two runs scored. The Cougars kept their momentum going as they tallied up another three runs in the seventh. The Scots were unable to get any more runs in the game as the Cougars got the last three outs to win the game 8-2.
 
Chris Wall (6-4) got the start on the mound as he did not allow any earned runs and struck out seven batters in 6.0 innings of play. Lane Threlkeld (1-0) came in to relieve Wall as he did not allow any earned runs and struck out two batters in 1.0 innings of work. Offensively, the team was led by Chase Urhahn who went 3 for 4 while scoring a run and had two RBI, Ethan Howser who had a hit while scoring a run and had two RBI, and Bradley Prebay who had a hit and 2 RBI.
 
In game two, the Cougars got off to a great start as Kenny Piper hit a grand slam. Columbia kept their momentum going as they added another four runs to finish the first inning with an 8-0 lead. The Scots scored their first run of the game in the second. The Cougars went on to add another two runs in the third, but the Scots answered that with four runs in the same inning to cut Columbia's lead. The Cougars were still up 10-5 when they added another run in the fourth, sixth, and ninth. Lyon made an attempt to get back in the game, but the Cougars kept them from adding any more runs to win the game 13-5.
 
Reid Browning (3-1) was the starting pitcher for the Cougars as he struck out a batter in 2.2 innings of work. Reid was then relieved by Derek Sallee (0-2), Josiah Imhoff (4-1), Jordan Copeland (2-0), and Lane Threlkeld (1-0) as they struck out a combined three batters and did not allow any earned runs for the rest of the game. Offensively, the Cougars were led by Kenny Piper who had a hit while scoring a run and had four RBI, Ethan Howser who had two hits while scoring a run and had two RBI, Nolan Rattai who had two hits while scoring three runs and had one RBI, and Justin Randle who also had two hits while scoring three runs and had one RBI to round out the top performers.  
 
The baseball team is back in action tomorrow as they finish their three game series against the Lyon College Scots in Batesville, Arkansas. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
