Columbia, Mo. – The 23rd ranked and one seeded Columbia College softball team continued AMC Tournament play this afternoon as they took on the fourth seed Lyon College Scots. The Cougars advance to the AMC Tournament Championship Series with the 7-3 win over the Scots . Columbia is now 33-10 on the season.
The Cougars did not waste any time getting on the board as they held the early 1-0 lead after one. In the top of the second Avgustina Arbova hit a three-run shot to put the Cougars up 4-0. The Scots were able to grab one run in the bottom of the inning, but the Cougar defense stood their ground as they closed out the fourth. In the top of the fifth, the Cougars knocked another three-run bomb, this time off the bat of Molly Carter. Carter extended the lead 7-1. The Scots made an attempt to rally back in the bottom of the seventh as they scored two runs, while Kaitlyn Nottelmann relieved Lexi Dickerson and secured the final two outs to punch the Cougars ticket to the AMC Tournament Championship Series.
Lexi Dickerson was in the circle as she allowed five hits, two earned runs, and struck out four batters in 6.1 innings. Kaitlyn Nottelmann came in an allowed just one hit, one earned run, and struck one batter as she locked up the final two outs of the game. Offensively, Olivia Denslow went 3-4 with two runs scored, Molly Carter was 1-4 with one run scored and three RBIs, Natalie Dummitt was 1-2 with one run scored, Allison Keen was 1-3 with one run scored, Avgustina Arbova was 1-3 with one run scored and three RBIs, and Karolina Arbova was 2-3 with one run scored.
The Cougars will return to the field tomorrow for the AMC Tournament Championship Series against the William Woods University Owls. Game one is set to start at 11 a.m. with game two following. For updates with the schedule click here.
