Columbia Falls to Grand View

Des Moines, Iowa – The Columbia College women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Grand View (Iowa), 80-70.
 
The first five minutes of the game went to Columbia, who held the 9-4 advantage. Grand View answered with a 14-2 run lead, 18-11 with 3:32 left in the first quarter. Columbia fought back to within one-point, but trailed by three (20-17) at the end of the quarter.

In quarter No. 2, Grand View extended its lead out to 13 points (31-18) with 7:28 left in the period. Again, the Cougars were able to fight back and close the gap down to two points (37-35) after an old fashioned three-point play was successful by Mallory Shetley. Columbia got a couple stops on defense and were able to tie the game on another basket by Shetley, but Grand View answered with a three-pointer and held the 40-37 lead going into the half.

The third quarter saw the Vikings increase their lead to nine points (58-49) with 2:23 remaining. The Cougars fought to get the lead down to six points, but the Vikings held and led 62-52 heading to the final quarter.

The Vikings erupted to start the final period, scoring ten of the first 12 points and extending their lead out to a game-high 18 points (72-52). The Cougars continued to battle and chip away. Clare Shetley drained a three-pointer with 45-seconds remaining, clipping the Vikings lead down to eight, but the deficit was just too much and Grand View secured the 80-70 win.
