Pittsburg, Kan. – The Columbia College men's and women's indoor track and field teams traveled to Pittsburg, Kansas to compete in the two-day 5
th Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic. Three Cougars qualified for Nationals by hitting NAIA B standard in their respective events.
Jacob Jenkins led the way for the men finishing 10
th in the 800 meter (1:55) to hit NAIA B standards while
Alex Fritz took 29
th in the 200 meter (22.16) and finished 32
nd in the 400 meter (49.19) to also hit NAIA B standards.
Alexander Dukes hit NAIA B standard with a time of 15:05 in the 5,000 meter for 23
rd place. Other notable mentions include
Malachi Jackson who finished 22
nd in the 60 meter hurdles and
Zach Nichols who took 18
th in shot put (15.07 m).
The women's team was led by
Kayla Shiverdecker and
Hannah Ricketts, both of which took 11
th in their events. Shiverdecker reached 1.56 meters in high jump while Ricketts threw a distance of 15.69 meters in weight throw. Additionally,
Meaghan Rice placed 22
nd in shot put with a distance of 11.37 meters, and
Mikayla Sehlmeyer finished 29
th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 5:27.

The men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action on Saturday, February 22
nd when they travel across town to compete in the Missouri Collegiate Challenge at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Missouri.
