Cougars Defeat Swedes

Lindsborg, Kansas– The Columbia College women's basketball team took on the Bethany (Kan.) Swedes in their second game of the season.

The Cougars (1-1), defeated the Swedes (0-1) 67-60.

The Swedes took the first points of the game but a layup by Payton Crowe propelled the Cougars to a scoring run of 11-0 to take the lead (21-13) at the end of the first quarter.

The Swedes snatched the next few points to open the second quarter, however the Cougars retaliated with a 3-pointer by Mackenzie Dubbert. Columbia continued their hot shooting, finishing the second quarter with a 22-point lead (48-26).

The Swedes found the net in the third quarter and continued to shrink the Cougars lead, eventually cutting the deficit to nine points (54-45), before the Cougars rattled off six-points to end the quarter in the lead.

The Cougars came out strong in the fourth quarter with a nine-point run. With less than five minutes remaining in the quarter the Swedes fought to break the Cougars lead, running up 10 points, but ultimately the Cougars held on to take the win.

Within the first and second quarter the Cougars held a lead over the Swedes of 22 points.
