Cougars Sweep Trojans, Advance to AMC Title Game

St. Louis, Mo. – The No.18 Columbia College volleyball team recorded a win against Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) in the semifinals of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) tournament this evening, 3-0. The Cougars will face the Missouri Baptist Spartans in the AMC finals tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

Set 1: Columbia 25 | Hannibal-LaGrange 21
The Cougars and the Trojans spent the majority of the set in a back-and-forth battle. However, Columbia began a 4-0 run producing momentum that eventually led to a 25-21 first set advantage.

Set 2: Columbia 25 | Hannibal-LaGrange 16
The Cougars recorded their highest hitting percentage of the match of .407 in the second set, which started with a kill from Beyza Bektasoglu. Columbia took five-straight points which consisted of two service aces from Ivona Zarin putting the Cougars up, 15-7. Maintaining their lead the rest of the set, Columbia documented a 25-16 result.

Set 3: Columbia 25 | Hannibal-LaGrange 16
Columbia recorded 15 kills in the final set, which ended up as a match high. The Trojans rallied four points before the Cougars managed to produce a 7-0 run, leading 8-4. That was as close as Hannibal got as Columbia ran away with a 25-16 victory.
