Women's Basketball Defeats William Penn on the Road

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Columbia College women's basketball team cruised their way to a double-digit road win, defeating William Penn (Iowa), 69-45. CC improves to 5-2 on the season, while William Penn falls to 0-7.

The Cougars are now 5-0 all-time against the Statesmen.

William Penn scored the first basket of the game, a three-pointer, but the Cougars came back with the following seven points. The Cougars continued to put the pressure on William Penn, as a Peyton Crowe triple gave the Cougars their first double-digit lead of the game (17-7) with just under two minutes left in the opening quarter. Crowe and Allison Stiers combined for ten of the 20 Cougar points. CC shot 50-percent (8-16) from the field and 60-percent (3-5) from distance.

WPU scored a field goal to trim the CC lead to eight (23-15) in the second quarter with 7:08 left until halftime. CC ended the half on a 19-8 run to take a 19-point advantage into the locker room. The Cougars outrebounded the Statesmen in the second quarter, 15-1. In addition, CC dished out six assists on nine made buckets.

The Cougars continued their dominance in the third period, increasing their lead to 27 (53-26) after an Abby Backes triple. WPU made a run, but Columbia led 53-35 going into the final quarter.

A layup by Stiers with 6:08 left in the game gave CC a 21-point advantage, and the Cougars led by 20+ the rest of the game.

Key Moment:
After William Penn opened the scoring with a three-pointer, the Cougars scored the following seven points, including five from Allison Stiers. The Cougars led for the rest of the game.
