Cougars Run Past Blue Jays

Columbia, Mo. – The Cougar men's basketball team was victorious against Westminster (Mo.), 92-82. With this win, the Cougars improve to 2-2 on the season.  

The Cougars took the advantage on the board first, leading by as many as four points in the game's first ten minutes. CC extended its lead to double-digits (39-29) with 3:25 left in the first half. Columbia stretched its lead to a first-half high 12-points after a Tony Burks layup (41-29) with just over three minutes remaining in the first period. The Blue Jays trimmed the lead down to six points (43-37), but a 3-point buzzer-beater from Kemryn Jenkins gave the Cougars a nine-point lead heading into the locker room. CC shot 50.0-percent (7-of-14) from the 3-point line and 47.4-percent (18-of-38) from the floor. 

The Blue Jays opened the second half on a 10-0 run to regain the lead at 47-46. Trendon Tisdale made a key three-point field goal off a Chima Oduocha offensive rebound was the push the Cougars needed offensively, as that shot propelled them on a 15-9 run and pushed their lead to 13. Tony Burks drained a couple of free throws to give CC its biggest lead of the game at 16 points (84-68) with 2:41 left in the game. The Cougars shot nearly 50.0-percent from the field (33-67, 49.3-percent).

Key Moment:
A steal by Carson Parker with 14:33 remaining in the game led to a Tony Burks layup to give CC the lead for good in the second half.
