Gulf Shores, Ala. - The Columbia College softball team split a doubleheader on day one of the Gulf Shores Invitational. The Cougars picked a 4-0 victory against (RV) Ave Maria (Fla.) and fell short against Southeastern (Fla.), 3-2. Columbia is now 4-3 on the season.

The Scoring - Game 1
T3 - (CC) Carli Buschjost reached second on an error. Taylor Barnes singled, allowing Buschjost to advance to third and allowed Kacy Bergfeld to drive in Buscgjost on a ground out. (CC-1, AMU-0)

T6 – (CC) Columbia connected with two hits and two-runs after Taylor Barnes singled to center, followed by a two-run home run by Mackenzie Kasarda. (CC-2, SEU-2)

A three-run seventh inning starting with a Bergfeld RBI single gave Columbia momentum to hold onto the win.

A home run in the bottom of the sixth awarded Southeastern the final winning run.
Game 1 Individual Leaders
Lexi Dickerson (2-1) picked up eight strikeouts, allowed one hit and two walks. Allison Keen produced two hits while Bergfeld drove in two RBI's in the win.
Game 2 Individual Leaders
Alyssa Roll (1-2) went 2.1 innings, striking out three and allowed two hits. Karsada had two hits and a game-high two RBI's.

The Cougars will take the field on Saturday, March 6th, where they continue in the Gulf Shores Invitational. They will face Thomas (Ga.) beginning at 10 a.m., followed by No.12 William Carey (Miss.) at 2:30 p.m.
