Cougars Extend Win-Streak; Sweeps Four-Game Series Against WBU

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College baseball team swept a doubleheader and the four-game series against Williams Baptist (Ark.). The Cougars have won five-straight and seven-of-eight games.

Prior to game one, the Cougars held a graduation ceremony for their seniors and held a traditional senior day celebration between the two games.

The Scoring – Game 1
T3 – The Eagles scored an unearned run. (CC 0, WBU 1)
B3 – The Cougars came roaring back with nine runs on six hits (CC 9, WBU 1)
B4 – Columbia scored eight times on four hits and was helped out by three Eagle errors. (CC 17, WBU 1)
B5 – The Cougars scored three more, highlighted by a solo home run from Riley Poulton (CC 20, WBU 1)
B6 – Cade Carlson hit a bases loaded double adding to the Cougar lead. (CC 23, WBU 1)

T1 – An RBI single gave Williams Baptist the lead. (CC 0, WBU 1)
B1 – Dalton Bealmer hit a two-run home run. (CC 2, WBU 1)
B2 – Duffin Makings and Kole Ficken scored runs for the Cougars (CC 4, WBU 1)
T4 – A solo home run cut the Columbia deficit to two. (CC 4, WBU 2)

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Mark Haire worked five innings, allowed just one unearned run and struck out four. Jimmy Layton and Andrew Baker combined to toss two innings and two strike outs. Five players recorded two hits each – Kenny Piper, Riley Poulton, Dalton Bealmer, Alex Anderson and Justin Randle. Piper, Braden Desonia, Bealmer, Justin Randle, Kellen Williamson, Jarrett Newell, Kole Ficken and David Dell scored two runs each.

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Pharon Pilgrim went 5.2 innings on the mound, earning the win. He struck out three hitters and allowed three earned runs. The Cougars had 18 hits, led by Duffin Makings who had four hits, while Dalton Bealmer and Justin Randle added three hits each. Kenny Piper and Bealmer drove in three runs a piece, while Piper, Makings, Kole Ficken and David Dell scored twice.

Up Next:
The Cougars will travel to Conway, Ark. for a four-game series against Central Baptist on April 30 and May 1. This is the last regular-season series for the Cougars.
