Softball Makes History in Doubleheader Sweep

Batesville, Ark. – The Columbia College softball team made American Midwest Conference (AMC) history with a doubleheader sweep over Lyon (Ark.) on Monday afternoon.

The Cougars become the first softball team in AMC history to win every conference game in the regular season. In addition, Columbia picked up its AMC leading 13th softball regular-season championship.

The Scoring – Game 1
T1 – 
Taylor Barnes reached on a bunt single and moved to second on an error. She then scored on an RBI single from Mackenzie Kasarda. Emily Dove, pinch-running for Kasarda, later scored on a wild pitch. (CC 2, Lyon 0)
T2 – 
The Cougars scored a run on an error and plated two more on a two-run inside the park home run by Taylor Barnes(CC 5, Lyon 0)
T3 – 
Columbia had seven hits in the inning, including five extra-base hits – three triples, one double and one home run.  (CC 11, Lyon 0)
T4 – 
A sac fly and a bases-loaded walk scored two more for CC. (CC 13, Lyon 0)

The Scoring – Game 2
T2 – 
Avgustina Arbova scored on an RBI single by Karolina Arbova. Karolina Arbova and Jacey Meyer scored on a Carli Buschjost double. (CC 3, Lyon 0)
B3 – 
A two-run double for the Scots got Lyon within one run. (CC 3, Lyon 2)
T7 – 
Taylor Barnes crossed home plate on an error (CC 4, Lyon 2)

Game 1 Turning Point
A leadoff but single and a Lyon error put Taylor Barnes in scoring position with no one out.

Game 2 Turning Point
With the Cougars up one run in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Scots had bases loaded with one out, but Lexi Dickerson retired the last two hitters of the inning to keep the Cougar lead intact.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Lexi Dickerson (15-1) earned the win, tossing three shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out five. Madison Ramsey went two innings in relief, giving up one hit. Neither pitcher walked a batter. Offensively, the Cougars had 15 hits, led by Taylor Barnes, who had three hits. Barnes and Mackenzie Kasarda drove in a game-high three runs, while Barnes and Carli Buschjost scored three times each.

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Alyssa Roll (13-3) earned the win tossing 4.1 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out five. Lexi Dickerson was perfect in her 2.2 innings while striking out three to earn the save (1). Taylor Barnes led the Cougars with two hits, while Kacy Bergfeld, Allison Keen, Avgustina Arbova, Karolina Arbova and Carli Buschjost had one hit each. Buschjost drove in a game-high two runs while Barnes stole two bases.

The Cougars' next contest will be in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) postseason tournament, which takes place May 5-8.
