Cougars Move to 8-0 in AMC Play for First-Time Since 2015-16

Columbia, Mo. – For the first time since the 2015-16 season, the Columbia College women's basketball team is 8-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) after an 82-72 win over Central Baptist (Ark.). 
 
The win moves CC to 15-4 overall, while Central Baptist drops to 9-8 and 2-6 in league play. 
 
The two teams were tied at 7-7 until a 14-5 Cougar run gave them a 21-12 advantage. In the first, Columbia shot 64.3-percent from the field (9-14), including four three-pointers. CC led 31-16 at the end of the first quarter. 
 
CBC started to chip away as they trimmed their deficit down to five points (37-32) with 3:02 remaining in the second period. The Cougars extended their lead to nine points (46-36) after an Abby Backes free throw with 1:46 left. After the teams traded points, Mackenzie Dubbert drained a triple as time expired to give CC a 50-41 advantage at the half. 
 
The Mustangs came out strong in the third quarter cutting the Cougar lead to four (51-47) with 7:34 left in the quarter. CBC was able to get within two points a couple of times in the quarter, but CC held on to a 64-61 lead going into the final period. 
 
The Cougar lead reached double digits with 6:17 left in the game after another 3-pointer from Dubbert (74-64). Allison Stiers drained a triple extending the lead to 14, the largest in the fourth quarter, 82-70. 
 
Key Moment:
After the Mustangs cut the Cougar lead to one point (64-63) in the fourth quarter, the Cougars responded with a 7-0 run to extend the lead to eight. 
 
By the Numbers:
14-14 – DeLaney Horstman recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds. 
5 – Five players reached double figures for CC. 
11 – CC tied a season-high with 11 made three-pointers.
