Columbia, Mo. - The No. 21-ranked Columbia College men's soccer team topped Missouri Baptist University 1-0 Saturday in a battle for second place in the American Midwest Conference.
Columbia extended its winning streak to three games and improved to 7-3-3 (4-1 AMC), while Missouri Baptist fell to 8-4 (2-2 AMC).
Erik Rajoy converted a penalty kick in the 17th minute for the lone goal of the game after
Luke Hynes was taken down in the box. The goal for Rajoy was his team-leading fourth of the season.
Liam Gibbs picked up the shutout in goal making a season-high five saves.
Missouri Baptist outshot Columbia 10-8 and the Cougars had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Each team was called for 14 fouls.
The win for Columbia improved its all-time record against Missouri Baptist to 36-1-3.
The Cougars step out of conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 19 to host Bellevue University at 4 p.m.
