Women's Soccer Stays Unbeaten in AMC Play

Columbia, Mo. – The No. 13 ranked Columbia College women's soccer team took on the Mustangs of Central Baptist College today in American Midwest Conference action. The Cougars, coming off of a 10-0 win in their last AMC match, looked to stay undefeated in conference play.

Early in the first-half, Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco was taken down in the box, putting her on the penalty line. Calm and collected, she fired the ball into the left-side of the goal past the CBC goalkeeper, giving the Cougars the early 1-0 lead.

In the 36th-minute of play, Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco played a ball to Maddy Schrader who converted to give Columbia the 2-0 lead.

The remainder of the first half was played out with Columbia keeping the offensive pressure on, as they finished with nine first half shots.

In the second half, Brooke Schneider took a shot that deflected off of a Mustangs defender and rolled to Izzy Cole. Cole's shot made its way past the CBC defense and into the net, extending the Cougars' lead to 3-0.

Not even ten minutes later, a build-up play saw Reese Hamilton dribble down the right side of the field to cross it into the box where Natalie Peng headed the ball up and over the CBC goalkeeper, making it 4-0 Columbia.

Three minutes after Peng's goal, Kailyn Sheehan played the ball forward to Kaya Thies who scored her first goal of the season to build the Columbia lead to 5-0.

The remaining time was played out with the Cougars still attacking on offense, but with no other success.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 7-3-1 overall, and 3-0 in AMC play. Further, Columbia is on a six-game winning streak, with five of them being shutouts.
