Des Moines, Iowa - The Columbia College women's basketball team traveled to Iowa for their first road contest of the season. Taking on the Vikings of Grand View University, the Cougars struggled to hold off the fourth-quarter effort from GVU and were outscored 11-22 in the final quarter to drop the contest 59-67. The Cougars (4-1) play next on Tuesday at home against No. 8-ranked Clarke University.
The Cougars out-shot the Vikings 42.3% to 32.3% from the field, while also going 31.6% from beyond the arc. Grand View's defense seemed to be too much for Columbia to handle as they finished the game with 23 turnovers to just seven from the Vikings.
Mallory Shetley led the Cougars in scoring with 15 points, while Delaney Horstman followed with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Abby Backes contributed 10 points.
Columbia's best statistical quarter of play was the third as Shetley found six of her points there as the Cougar defense held Grand View to 21% shooting from the field at 4-19.
