Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia College men's basketball team used a strong second-half to comeback and overtake the Eagles of Central Methodist University to get back in the win column. Trailing 36-41 at half, the Cougars outscored the Eagles 43-21 in the second-half to win 79-62. It was a great defensive showing for Columbia as they forced 14 turnovers from CMU and held them scoreless for nearly eight minutes in the second half while going on a 13-0 scoring run themselves.
The Columbia defense caused problems for the CMU offense as they went from shooting 48% in the first half to just 26% in the second.
Columbia had big contributions from
Tony Burks and
Brock Davis as Burks finished with 21 points while Davis had 18 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks.
Collin Parker reached double-digits with 11 points to go along with five rebounds.
Trendon Tisdale scored nine points, and
Marlon Allen played to eight points and six rebounds.
In the second half,
Dogukan Kara seemed to help raise the energy of the Cougars as they were trailing 44-47 when he checked in. Kara's court presence helped the Cougars to a 15-3 scoring run to overtake the Eagles.
The Cougars now look to American Midwest Conference play as they host Williams Baptist on Thursday night.
