Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College men's basketball team jumped out to a commanding 24-point halftime advantage with a pair of double-digit runs in an 85-64 non-conference win over College of the Ozarks Tuesday.
The Cougars improved to 8-0 at home this season and have won their last 16 games at The Arena of Southwell Complex.
Collin Parker scored 17 of his game-high 21 points in the first half, while
Tony Burks (15) and
Trendon Tisdale (14) also scored in double figures. Tisdale was 4-of-5 from three-point range and also added a season-high six assists.
Columbia shot a season-high 52.4 percent (33-63) from the field in the win and hit 10 three-pointers for the third time in the last four games.
The Cougars started quick building a 5-0 lead in the opening two minutes of play limiting the Bobcats to 0-of-4 from the field. Ozarks answered with a 6-0 run to take it first lead of the game at 12-11 with 12:08 to play in the first half.
Columbia opened a double-digit lead (25-12) with a 14-0 run, and then
Brock Davis converted an old-fashioned three-point play to highlight a 10-0 run to make it a 21-point (38-17) advantage.
Parker finished the first half with 17 points and seven rebounds on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range as Columbia led 43-19. The Cougars shot 56.7 percent (17-30) from the field and limited visiting Ozarks to 6-of-31 (19.4 percent) shooting.
The lead grew to 31 (63-32) on a bucket by Burks with 14:19 to play.
Devin Carroll and Tanner Rogers led Ozarks with 11 points each.
Columbia improved to 9-4 with the win, while Ozarks dropped its third-straight game and fell to 5-10. The Cougars lead the all-time series 16-8 and the teams met for the first time since Nov. 12, 2007.
The Cougars host NCAA Division III Webster University on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m.
