Box Score Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team secured a double-digit win over Harris-Stowe (Mo.) this afternoon on senior day, 74-43.
Columbia improves to 20-6 on the season and 13-2 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC). Harris-Stowe moves to 6-15 overall and 4-12 in conference play.
Prior to the game, the Columbia College Athletics Department and the women's basketball honored three seniors -
Bria Jones,
Kamryn Mennemeyer, and
Clare Shetley.
The Cougars began the contest with an 8-0 run with two buckets in the paint from
Clare Shetley. The Hornets got within five (15-10), but this was the closest they would get the remainder of the quarter To close out the first quarter, Columbia led 20-14.
Over a minute into the second period, a pair of jump shots increased the Cougar lead to eight, holding a 24-16 advantage. After a three-and-a-half-minute scoring drought from the Hornets, J'Lessa Jordan connected on a layup trying to get the momentum going. Harris-Stowe got within four points after securing two made free throws with 3:30 remaining in the half, 28-24.
Abby Backes hit three shots from behind the arc putting the Cougars in charge 39-24 going into the half.
Backes started where she left off hitting a three pointer to begin the third quarter. The Cougars shot 75 percent from the field in the third quarter alone, hitting 9 of 12 shots.
Mallory Shetley drained three buckets in the paint and had nine points in the period. Columbia held the 61-33 edge into the final quarter.
The Cougars took their largest lead in the fourth quarter of 33 points and ended the contest with a 74-43 victory over the Hornets.
