Volleyball Goes 1-1 To Close Out Hampton Inn Classic

Columbia, Mo. – The No. 20 ranked Columbia Cougars wrapped up play today in the CC Hampton Inn Classic with a 3-1 win over (RV) Lindsey Wilson College and a 1-3 setback to the Golden Eagles of John Brown University.

Set 1: Columbia 25 - Lindsey Wilson 8
The Cougars jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead with tough serving from Ellie Rockers. Luisa Ferreira spread the ball well for the Cougar offense as they continued to push their lead to 17-5, prompting Lindsey Wilson to take their second and final timeout of the set. The Cougars hit a blistering .467% in the opening frame to take a 1-0 match lead.
 
Set 2: Columbia 25 – Lindsey Wilson 11 
Columbia started hot again taking a 15-4 lead into the second Lindsey Wilson timeout. 17 team kills with only one error on a .485 hitting percentage earned the Cougars the second set and a 2-0 match lead.
 
Set 3: Columbia 24 – Lindsey Wilson 26
Lindsey Wilson pushed themselves to a 12-5 lead. Raven Buckley helped spark a Cougar scoring run to tie the score, 13-13. Both teams traded points to another 23-23 tie before a kill from Lindsey Wilson gave them the third set, making it a 2-1 Cougar lead.
 
Set 4: Columbia 25 – Lindsey Wilson 21
Camila Espejo served six-consecutive points for the Cougars to take an early 10-1 lead. Columbia continued to impress, pushing their lead to 24-16. Lindsey Wilson scored five points before a kill from Ferreira ended the match.

Allana Capella led the way for the Cougars with 17 kills on a .351 hitting percentage. Alayna Rooks and Beyza Bektasoglu followed with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Luisa Ferreira dished out 42 assists while picking up a team-high 24 digs. Ellie Rockers finished with 22 digs and six assists.

Set 1: Columbia 25 – John Brown 23
The first set saw both teams trade points all the way to a 23-23 tie. A kill from Beyza Bektasoglu followed by a service ace from Olivia Skipworth gave the Cougars the first set win.
 
Set 2: Columbia 23 – John Brown 25
John Brown's offense pushed them ahead 8-5 early in set two. Errors from Columbia combined with more offense from John Brown would push the Golden Eagles to the second set win.
 
Set 3: Columbia 19 – John Brown 25
John Brown started the third set with a four-point lead and never looked back. Columbia took their second timeout down 14-18 and was not able to gain any momentum at the end of the set despite multiple kills from Alayna Rooks.
 
Set 4: Columbia 25 – John Brown 27
Columbia and John Brown traded points to a 20-18 John Brown lead. After a Cougar timeout, kills from Bektasoglu and Janae Johnson would tie the score, 25-25. A kill from John Brown followed by an error from Columbia ended the match in favor of John Brown.

The Cougars were led by Rooks with 17 kills on a .308 hitting percentage. Bektasoglu followed closely with 15 kills of her own. Ferreira once again led in assists with 47 while collecting 12 digs. Rockers (11) and Olivia Skipworth (10) led the defensive effort for the Cougars.
