Columbia, Mo. - The #18 Columbia College women's soccer team (3-3-1) survived a second-half offensive effort from the #18 Lancers of Grace College (5-1-1) to hold on for the 2-1 win, putting the Cougars at 2-0 for the week.
The Cougar offense was firing on all cylinders in the first-half, racking up 10-team shots while holding the Lancers to six.
In the 23rd-minute,
Abigail Logan got a pass from
Macie Lucas and found the back of the net past the Lancer goalkeeper, putting the Cougars up 1-0.
Not even ten-minutes later, a deflected ball from
Natalie Peng found its way to
Madeleine Shylanski who was wide open at the top of the box. Off the one touch, Shylanski converted and gave the Cougars the 2-0 lead.
In the second-half, the Lancers turned on their offensive pressure. Registering 10-team shots to just one from Columbia, the Lancers created many scoring opportunities for themselves. In goal,
Kate Marshall grabbed two big saves in the second-half.
Marlene Menzel was the lone goal scorer for the Lancers as she broke through the Cougar defense and finished the one-on-one opportunity midway through the second-half.
Marshall finished with five saves in goal.
