Cougars Push Win Streak to Seven, Earn Conference Sweep

Columbia, Mo. - The #25 Columbia College volleyball team (9-7, 2-0 AMC) took on the visiting Eutectics of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (2-11, 0-2) tonight in another American Midwest Conference matchup.

The Cougars took an early 7-3 lead in the first set before UHSP took their first timeout. Kills from Abby Massengill and Beyza Bektasoglu helped the Cougars extend their lead to 19-11, prompting another UHSP timeout. A tough serving run from Raven Buckley pushed the Cougars to set point, 24-12, when a kill from Sude Gundogan gave the Cougars the first set, 25-12. 

Jordan Starkey powered a 6-0 second lead for the Cougars with tough serving before a kill from UHSP ended the scoring run. Columbia dominated set two as they took big leads at 10-3 and then again at 16-7. A kill from Luisa Ferreira put Magdalena Bostal at the service line where she rattled off eight points in a row to put the Cougars at set point, 24-7. A kill from Mikala Scott earned the Cougars the second set win, 25-8.

The third set saw the Cougars take an early lead again, as Janae Johnson and Gwendolyn Marino pushed points to extend the Columbia lead to 11-3. Sude Gundogan had the final three kills for the Cougars to take the third set 25-14. 

Sude Gundogan lead the Cougars with 12 kills on a .524 hitting percentage. She was followed closely by Beyza Bektasoglu who chipped in 11 kills, zero errors, for a .688 hitting percentage. Ellie Rockers had a team and match-high 13 digs. Luisa Ferreira controlled the offense well for the Cougars as they hit .374% as a team. Ferreira finished with 26 assists and 10 digs.
