Fulton, Mo. – Mallory Shetley had 20 points and DeLaney Horstman added 15 to lead the Columbia College women's basketball team to a 62-49 win at William Woods University Saturday in Fulton, Mo.
 
Columbia won its ninth-straight game to improve to 21-4 (16-2 AMC), while William Woods had its three-game win streak snapped and fell to 8-17 (6-12 AMC). The Cougars are tied for first place in the AMC standings with Missouri Baptist University.
 
The Cougars shot just 34.2 percent (25-73) from the field in the win, but dominated the rebounding margin (47-35) and outscored William Woods 23-3 in bench points.
 
The Cougars dominated inside early in the contest and led 22-14 after one quarter, scoring 14 points in the paint. Horstman had the final 11 points of the quarter for Columbia.
 
William Woods cut the lead to 24-18 and forced a Cougar timeout by head coach James Arnold. Columbia responded with a 9-0 run to make it 33-18, highlighted by a three from the top of the key from Mackenzie Hess.
 
Horstman had 15 points and eight rebounds at the break as the Cougars led 37-23.
 
The Cougars managed to scored just nine points in the third quarter, but a 25-foot bank three-pointer from Abby Backes at the buzzer gave Columbia a 46-33 lead.
 
Shetley scored on back-to-back possessions to got the lead back to double figures (52-39) with less than seven minutes remaining.
 
Natalie Thomas led all scorers with 24 points and 13 rebounds for William Woods, who was limited to 1-of-9 from three-point range.
 
Columbia hosts University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
 
NOTES: Columbia leads the all-time series 39-11 against William Woods and has won five-straight contests ... Shetley scored 20 or more points for the ninth time in her career ... Columbia had 19 offensive rebounds, third most of the season.
