Cougars Walk-Off Hornets Again, Earn Series Sweep

Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia College baseball team played game three against the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State University today. After taking games one and two yesterday, the Cougars looked for the series sweep on senior day.

Columbia scored three in the third to take the first lead. Both teams were scoreless until the seventh when the Hornets used four runs to take the lead, 4-3. Riley Poulton homered in the bottom of the seventh for two RBIs, putting the Cougars back in the lead 5-4.

In the ninth inning, a single home run from HSSU brought the score level, 5-5. After the Cougars were unable to score in the ninth, Alex Grellner was brought in to pitch.

Grellner struck out three Hornet batters in-a-row to give Columbia a chance to take the win. Cayden Nicoletto and Brayden Desonia both managed hits and were able to get on base, bringing Indy Stanley up to the plate. Harris-Stowe made a pitching change, but it would not be enough as Indy Stanley launched a three-run home run, giving the Cougars the win and marking the second day in-a-row that CC earned a win over the Hornets by walk-off.
