Baseball to Play Opening Round in Kentucky

Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia College baseball team learned today that they will travel to Williamsburg, Kentucky for the NAIA Opening Round of the World Series. They enter the four-team site as the #3-seed and will take on the #2-seed of Mobile University in the first round.

Monday, May 15th
  • Game 1: #2 Mobile vs. #3 Columbia - 1:30PM (CST) - Columbia def. Mobile, 10-7
  • Game 2: #1 Cumberlands vs. #4 Reinhardt - 5:00PM (CST) - 
Tuesday, May 16th
  • Game 3: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2 - 1:30PM (CST)
  • Game 4: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2 - 5:00PM (CST)
Wednesday, May 17th
  • Game 5: Winner Game 3 vs. Loser Game 4 - 1:30PM (CST)

Ticket Information:
  • The admission to get into the games is $10 a day or $20 for the whole tournament. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.

How They Qualified:
  1. Cumberlands (Ky.) - The Patriots finished the regular season going 4-1 against ranked opponents, including a win win over then-No.2 Tennessee Wesleyan. They also played NCAA Div. 1 Morehead State, dropping a tight 7-8 contest in the middle of their conference tournament. In the Mid-South conference tournament, they went 6-0 on the way to a conference championship title while outscoring their opponents 80-26.
  2. Mobile (Ala.) - The Rams went 2-7 against ranked opponents during the regular season. Mobile started the season unranked before jumping to #8 after going 17-2 to start the season. The Rams were forced to play through the losers bracket in the SSAC conference tournament. They beat Faulkner University in the semifinals before rolling William Carey University in the championship game, 22-10. 
  3. Columbia - The Cougars won seven games against ranked opponents this season, including three against a top-ten opponent. They finished second in the AMC after league play. In the AMC tournament, the Cougars upset #8 Missouri Baptist University twice to claim the tournament championship. 
  4. Reinhardt (Ga.) - Reinhardt qualified for the Opening Round as an at-large bid after finishing the regular season and the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament with a 33-18 record. The Eagles placed second in the regular season standings and they finished third in the AAC Tournament after losing twice to Bryan College (Tn).
