Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia College softball team knocked off the top-seeded Comets of Cottey College today in the American Midwest Softball Conference Tournament, 1-0. The win puts the Cougars into the last four as they will take on second-seeded Missouri Baptist University tomorrow morning for a spot in the championship game.
AMC co-Pitcher of the Year
Ella Schouten got the better of the Comets today as she finished with 12 strike outs, allowing zero runs, turning in a dominating performance that saw Schouten strike out three batters in a row in the top of the seventh to end the game.
Although Columbia only managed three hits in the contest against the other AMC co-Pitcher of the Year, only was one needed as
Emily King launched a ball up and over the left fielder and past the fence for a solo-run home run.
The Cougar defense made some big plays to help hold the Comets hit-less through seven innings of play.
Abigail Pringer and
Bailey Merritt both added one hit each.
Columbia moves to 2-0 in the AMC tournament and will face the Spartans tomorrow at 10:00AM. MBU played to two close wins with an 11-9 decision over Stephens College and then a 3-2 win over Central Baptist College today.
