Cougars Roll Drovers for Ranked Win

Columbia, Mo. - The No.10-ranked Cougars of Columbia College played host to the No. 23 Drovers of the University of Science and Arts tonight at Columbia's 3rd Annual Meet at the Marv event. The Cougars were coming into the match on a three-game winning streak, while the Drovers were winners of four of their first five.

The Cougars got on the board early after a shot from Riley Porter ricocheted off the USAO goalie and fell to the feet of Macie Lucas who was able to convert and score, giving Columbia the 1-0 lead just under three minutes into the game.

Macie Lucas grabbed her second goal of the match in the 19th minute after a cross from Jewel Morelan and Riley Porter was played into the box and to Lucas.

On a Cougar corner kick in the 28th minute, freshman Ayanna Clarke registered her first career goal after she was able to head in the cross from Emilia Zolesio Fernandez Blanco

The Cougars led at the half 3-0 and had outshot the Drovers, 14-4.

Early in the second half, a foul against USAO was whistled inside their own box, setting up a penalty kick for Columbia. At the line, Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco found the back of the net to extend the CC lead to 4-0.

The Drovers responded as a long ball from Dagbjort Gudmunsdottir found Alicia Rey on a breakaway. Rey was able to score to cut the deficit to three, 4-1.

After a corner kick from Columbia bounced around in the 65th minute, Izzy Cole picked it up just at the top of the box and powered home the fifth goal for the Cougars.

Down 1-5, USAO made one last push as time expired when Alicia Rey managed her second goal of the game, but it was too late as time expired to give Columbia the 5-2 win.

Although she did not finish with a clean sheet, freshman goalkeeper Natalie Allison remains impressive as she registered six saves in the win.
