(RV) Volleyball Tops Stars in Crosstown Match Up

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The (RV) Columbia College volleyball team collected their third American Midwest Conference (AMC) win against Stephens College (Mo.) this evening, defeating the Stars, 3-1 (25-23, 25-12, 23-25, 25-14). This marks Columbia's 30th win against Stephens all-time, remaining undefeated in the school's history.

Columbia improves to 11-9 on the season, and 3-0 in the AMC.

The Cougars and the Stars gave the crowd an entertaining opening set, resulting in a back-and-forth battle. Columbia notched 14 kills, while Stephens produced nine. The Cougars hit their lowest of the set at .070, as the Stars hit .086. Columbia would manage to take set one, 25-23.

The Cougars cruised through set two, outhitting the Stars 14-8, while also producing four service aces. Columbia recorded their highest hitting percentage of the match at .500, while Stephens hit their lowest of the contest at .033. The Cougars held the 25-12 advantage in set two.

Stephens and Columbia rallied through the third set, producing a total of 13 ties. The Stars rounded up a match-high of 16 kills at .353, while the Cougars managed 10 kills at .281. As a result, Stephens came on top 25-23 in the third set.

Columbia came out of the gates strong, taking an early 7-1 advantage. The Cougars held a lead as large as 11, while also putting down a match-high of 17 kills. Columbia went on to take the match, 25-14.

Mariana De Carvalho led Columbia with 14 kills, while also contributing two service aces and nine digs.

Katerina Pappa followed with 10 kills.

Jordan Starkey picked up a career-high of four service aces in the contest.

Agatha Emanuelle added six blocks.

Hannah Vogt contributed 28 assists, while Clara Gower led the team with 19 digs.

Columbia returns to action at the Marvel Classic Otober 11-12, as they begin with a matchup against Grand View University (Iowa) at 2:00 p.m.
