Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia College volleyball team fell tonight at home to the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University, marking the first conference loss of the season for the Cougars.
Before the match, Columbia took time to honor and recognize their graduating seniors in that of:
Alayna Rooks,
Clara Gower,
Fabiana Mucciola,
Janae Johnson,
Agatha Emanuelle, and
Sude Gundogan.
The Cougars dropped into second play in the American Midwest Conference with the loss, falling to 8-1 in the conference. Missouri Baptist claimed the AMC regular season title as they moved to 10-0 in the league; the semifinals and championship matches of the AMC women's volleyball tournament will be played at Missouri Baptist.
The Cougars rallied to take set two after dropping the first set.
In the third set, Columbia led most of the way until MBU took a late 20-19 lead. Columbia played back to a 24-22 lead, but a kill from the Spartans and a Cougar attacking error level the score at 24-24. With another tie at 26-26, the Spartans scored the two final points to take the third set 28-26.
Columbia struggled to find its rhythm in set four as the Cougars were held to a negative hitting percentage, while the Spartans hit a match-high .273%.
