Columbia, Mo. –
Collin Parker scored a season-high 27 points to lead the Columbia College men's basketball team to a 76-66 victory over NCAA Division III Webster University Saturday at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
Columbia took advantage of its size to dominate the points in the paint (40-14) and rebounding advantage (44-39).
Seth Larson recorded his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while
Kai Steinman had 13 points.
Carson Parker added nine points and six rebounds off the bench.
Columbia won its second-consecutive game to improve to 2-2, while Webster played the game as an exhibition and remained 0-2.
Columbia led 8-0 in the opening four minutes of play as Webster missed its first six shots from the field. Steinman had a pair of three-point plays during the 8-0 run. The lead grew to double figures (14-2) behind two buckets from
Collin Parker and a lay-up from Steinman.
Carson Parker scored seven straight points to get the lead up to 35-19 with 3:25 to play before half.
Parker had 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting as the Cougars led 39-28 at the break. Columbia dominated the paint (20-2) and the rebounding advantage (26-2).
Webster got lead down to 10 (48-38) after back-to-back threes from Jemard Sykes II, but a jumper and a three by Steinman got the lead back to 53-38.
Columbia was in command leading 63-45, but a 12-0 run by Webster trimmed the lead to 63-57 with 7:18 to play. Larson connected on three-straight buckets from the field to get the lead back to double figures (69-59) with 4:38 to play.
Sykes II (18 points), Josh Luster (17) and Jonah Hibbert (10) scored in double figures for Webster, who hit 11-of-24 from three-point range.
The Cougars open American Midwest Conference (AMC) play at Hannibal-La Grange University on Thursday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m.
