Cougars Drop Exhibition Game at Colorado State

Box Score Fort Collins, Colo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team suffered an 85-28 loss at NCAA Division I Colorado State University on Saturday at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo.
 
Colorado State improved to 3-1 with the win, while the game counted as an exhibition for Columbia and the Cougars remained 3-0.
 
Mallory Shetley led the Cougars with 10 points, while Mya Miller added seven. The Cougars shot 19.2 percent (10-52) from the field and hit just 2-of-26 from three-point range.
 
The Cougars limited Colorado State to 1-of-7 shooting from the field with a pair of turnovers to open the game as Columbia led 4-2. The Rams responded with a 16-0 run to take an 18-4 advantage, and held a 21-9 lead after one quarter.
 
Colorado State scored the first eight points of the second quarter to extend the advantage to 29-9 with 7:13 left before half.
 
The Cougars trailed 43-13 at half after shooting just 13.3 percent (4-30) from the field.
 
Shetley canned a three and then hit a jumper to trim the Colorado State lead to 45-18 with 8:08 left in the third. The Rams outscored the Cougars 16-11 in the quarter and led 59-24. Shetley had five points as Columbia shot 40 percent (4-10) from the field in the quarter.
 
Khloe Froebe (15 points), Emma Ronsiek (15), Brooke Carlson (11) and Hannah Simental (10) scored in double figures for Colorado State, who shot 51.6 percent (33-64) from the field and outrebounded the Cougars 49-29.
 
The Cougars open American Midwest Conference (AMC) play at Hannibal-La Grange University on Thursday, November 21 at 5:30 p.m.
 
NOTES: The teams met for the first time in school history.
