Cougars Remain Perfect With Win at William Woods

Fulton, Mo. – Mya Miller scored 12 of her career-high 22 points in the third quarter to lift the Columbia College women's basketball team to a 69-49 victory at William Woods University on Thursday.
 
Columbia remained undefeated with a 9-0 record (5-0 AMC), while William Woods fell to 5-6 (3-2 AMC). The Cougars are off to a 9-0 start for the first time since 2015-16 (19-0).
 
Lexi Miller (16 points) and Mallory Shetley (12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists) also scored in double figures for Columbia which outrebounded William Woods 46-31.
 
Lexi Miller hit three from beyond the arc in the first quarter as the Cougars jumped out to a 15-11 lead after 10 minutes of play.
 
Columbia's lead grew to eight (19-11) after back-to-back lay-ups from Mya Miller, and then an 8-0 run by the Cougars pushed the lead to double figures (27-15). Ashtyn Klusmeyer capped the run with a three-pointer less than two minutes to play before half.
 
The Cougars led 31-22 at half lead after limiting William Woods to 33.3 percent (10-30) shooting from the field and 1-of-10 from three-point range. Lexi Miller led the Cougars with nine points, while Shetley added eight.
 
Mya Miller had nine of the first 12 points for the Cougars in the third quarter as they extended the lead to 43-26 with 6:01 left in the third. Columbia went on a 10-2 run during a 1:57 span. 
 
William Woods outscored Columbia 13-3 to end the third quarter and got the lead down to 46-39. The Owls outscored the Cougars 17-15 in the third.
 
Columbia opened the fourth quarter by scoring the first seven points to extend the advantage to 53-39 with 9:11 to play. Lexi Miller scored on a lay-up and then drained a three-pointer from the wing to put the game out of reach.
 
Jersee Wren led William Woods with 16 points, while Sydney Booker (14) and Peyton Dearing (12) also scored in double figures. The Owls hit just 3-of-18 from three-point range.
 
The Cougars continue AMC play at Cottey College on Saturday, December 14 at 1 p.m.
 
NOTES: Columbia has won eight-straight games against WWU and leads the all-time series 43-11 ... Shetley became the sixth player in school history with 700 or more rebounds (704) and also moved into ninth in career assists (329).
